I’m soooo lucky to have an independent children’s book store in my city. Other people may go to church for spiritual nurture. Not me. I go to Reading Reptile to pet the store cat and store rabbit (and sometimes the store rat), smell the books, touch the books, feel the books, marvel at Deb’s papier-mâché character creations, and discover amazing art that I can hold in my hand.
This week: marveling at French books that I can’t read, but love to look at.
Mangera Mangera pas? by Elisa Géhin, illustrated by Alain Léonard

Le Petit Chaperon Rouge by Gilles Bizouerne, illustrated by Barroux
(If I had lots and lots of money, I’d have a definitive collection of all books about Red Riding Hood that tickle my fancy)

A la recherche du Bonheur by Juliette Saumande, illustrated by amazing Eric Puybaret

Hi Kate! I’m delighted that Searching for Happiness has made it to your list of ‘French books to marvel at’. I’m also totally amazed that said French books (as in ‘in French’) are available in Kansas City! I don’t know about the other titles, but this one has also been published in English by Hamond. So you can read it after all… ;o) Juliette
Thanks, I’ll have to see the English copy. I wish we had more books published in other countries available here. I admire many illustrators from Russia, Germany, France, Italy, China, U.K., and Korea. And I am sure that there are more to discover.
